Disappearance of Newsgroup Messages: Sometimes, it is possible that the messages from your newsgroup in Outlook Express disappear suddenly and you are unable to view anything inside your newsgroup.
First and foremost thing you have to do is to:
- Click ‘View’
- Click ‘Current View’
- Make sure that Current View is set to ‘Show All Messages’
- Also, ‘Show replies to my messages’ has to be unchecked, else you will be able to see only message replies

- Go to ‘Options’
- Go to ‘Maintenance’
- Check if Outlook Express is configured to ‘delete news messages after xx days.’ This feature works only when the ‘compact messages in the background’ option has been enabled (by default). This feature is not problem-free and hence not recommended.
The most probable cause of the disappearance of newsgroup messages can be that the application automatically removed some message/messages from your local store, which had been originally removed from news Server. This is a common phenomenon by many news Servers that they delete newsgroup messages regularly after 2-3 days only. One the contrary, there are some news Servers that keep news messages even up to 90 plus days. To prevent your newsgroup messages from disappearing, you can save their copy to a folder.
